The Bristol Ferry Company run five boats in the Bristol Harbour. The boats run to a scheduled timetable and can also be hired out for private charter.
The brief was to design a modest ‘station’ building by the harbour for passengers to buy tickets and embark / disembark in safety. This will be the first of a new series of such ‘stations’ to replace the current provision.
The ferry terminal will have both public and private accommodation and require clearly defined access provision and level change from harbour to water.
The ferry terminal requirements are as follows:
• Ticket machine / interface
• Ticket booth + WC + small kitchen
• An aspect of ‘Trade’
• Covered seating area
• Access ramp
I tackled this project unveiling the concept from the history of Bristol and analysis of the site.
